Why is your AC not heating? Startup and defrost checks
You have switched to heating, but warm air is not coming out. Check the operating mode and temperature setting first. A startup delay or a pause for defrost needs a different assessment from a persistent heating problem.

Which mode is selected?
Select the heating mode specified in your manual, often labelled HEAT or shown with a sun symbol. FAN circulates air. Observe the unit with the set temperature above room temperature. Note both the remote display and the indoor unit’s response.
Warm air may take time to start
Some units delay the indoor fan at startup to avoid blowing cold air. Check the explanation in your model’s manual rather than repeatedly switching the unit on and off. There is no single waiting time for every model. Tell the technician whether warm airflow eventually starts.
What happens during defrost?
Heat-pump air conditioners may pause heating to defrost the outdoor unit. Note whether heating resumes or the room stays cold throughout. Do not pour hot water over the outdoor unit or chip ice off with a tool.
What should you record if the problem continues?
Record the model, any displayed code and when the problem began. Mention if cooling worked in summer but heating now fails. These observations alone cannot establish whether refrigerant or a replacement part is needed; the unit needs inspection.
