Why is your air conditioner leaking water?
Water leaking into the room may involve a blocked or bent drain hose, a connection or an installation issue. Water leaving the drain hose outdoors is different. First identify where it comes from; if it leaks indoors, switch the unit off and arrange an inspection.
Where is the water coming from?
- The drain hose outdoors
- Condensate produced during cooling leaves through this line. Water coming from its outlet is not, by itself, a fault.
- Under the indoor unit or down the wall
- Drips into the room or a wet wall should not be treated as normal drainage. Stop using the unit and describe the location to a service provider.
- Outdoor pipe connections
- Condensation can form on cold pipe surfaces. An unclear source or an accompanying operating problem needs checking.
Possible causes for a technician to check
A blockage, bend or unsuitable slope can affect drainage. A submerged hose outlet can also cause backflow. Unit placement and connections need assessment too. These are possible causes, not a remote diagnosis.
Dirt around the filter and drainage path also needs checking. Light surface condensation on a louvre is different from water running into the room. Dripping alone cannot establish low refrigerant.
What can you safely do at home?
- If water is leaking indoors, switch the unit off with the remote. Do not touch wet sockets, cables or electrical parts; get technical help if water has reached electrical components.
- Observe the source from a safe position. Do not climb a ladder or the building exterior to reach the outdoor unit or hose.
- Note when it started, the operating mode and any recent cleaning or installation. Take a photo of the leak location if safe.
- Do not dismantle the casing or pipes, or put wire, chemicals or compressed air into the drain. For user filter cleaning, follow only the method in your model’s manual.
Is maintenance or repair needed?
Cleaning and drainage checks fall within maintenance; a connection or component problem may need repair. Maintenance cannot be promised to resolve every leak. At Tekeli Soğutma, the required work and scope are discussed after inspection.
